A walking route along the banks of Voidomatis

A gentle hiking trail for the whole family, which gives us the opportunity to walk alongside the river Voidomatis and get to know the nature and culture of the wider area of Zagori.

The route in brief:

Aristi Bridge → Panagia Spiliotissa → Voidomatis River → Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi → Klidonia Bridge

The route in detail:

Starting from the head village of Aristi with its impressive view, we can walk and start the hiking route from the beginning of the path to Panagia Spiliotissa, just outside the village. Through a short path we will come in contact with a masterpiece of the builders of the time, which has been there since 1665. After returning to the trail, we continue to the Bridge of Aristi where we will stop to get to know the Voidomatis River, considered one of the cleanest in Europe with its crystal clear waters.

The route starts just after the concrete bridge of Aristi, entering the wide and distinct path that enters an imposing plane tree forest. Entering the trail, cross a small stream and crossing one bank, we gradually climb the slope and reach the highest point of the route with a beautiful view. Going downhill again, we can bypass the beaten track and reach a small Byzantine church, the Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, decorated with frescoes by the famous Gramos painter Ioannis.

Returning to the path, we continue on our way, first by the river and then a little higher up where we pass in front of the site of Kleidi, a special place, as findings of the Paleolithic period have been found there. Going downhill, we follow the path, now parallel to the Voidomatis River, where we have the opportunity to admire its turquoise waters and take some photos, ending up at a cobbled path that leads us to the stone bridge of Klidonia.
