Αrchaeologist
Dr. Dimitrios Kalpakis is an archaeologist, a graduate of the University of Ioannina, where he completed his PhD thesis in Byzantine History and Historical Geography. He completed his postdoctoral research in the field of Historical Geography and Digital Cartography at the Democritus University of Thrace. He has many years of experience as an archaeologist and curator of antiquities, while he is a member of research groups and institutions, as well as a member of editorial boards of international journals. He is head of the Department of Supervision of Historical Documents and Archives of Greek Ports of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. He is a member of Ecomuseum Zagori as a scientific advisor on issues of Historical Geography and Monumental Topography, drawing on a long experience in the digital documentation of monuments and landmarks, in the organization and curation of exhibitions in combination with the composition of archaeognostic and tourist itineraries, as well as his previous involvement with the cartography of the continental area.
