International Mobile Livestock Knowledge Transfer Workshop
In collaboration with the “Mediterranean Cultural Landscapes Support Alliance for Biodiversity, Climate and sustainable Livelihoods” (AMNC), the Zagori Ecomuseum organized an international knowledge transfer workshop on transhumant livestock farming.
The workshop for the transfer of know-how to institutions had a duration of four days (1-4 September 2022) was held at the Conference Centre of Ano Pedina in Zagori with the title: “Alliance for the Support of Mediterranean Cultural Landscapes for Biodiversity, for the Climate and for Livelihoods” (AMNC): Innovation for the economic sustainability of transhumant livestock: ecotourism and other potential values’.
The workshop was attended by organizations from the Mediterranean, specifically from Greece, Spain, Morocco, Italy and Turkey, who deal with the environment, people and, in general, the transmission of biodiversity in the Mediterranean. On the first and third day of activities, presentations, speeches, and discussions took place on biodiversity, the environment and their interaction with traditional animal husbandry practices. On the first and second day, on-site research was carried out in Ano Pedina-Dolo to visit the prefectural farmer Spyros Kiosi, who practices nomadic animal husbandry, but also in Gyftokambos, with the traditionally built animal husbandry huts.
The Ecomuseum of Zagori presented the project “EchoLoci: Innovative echo-location applications for the recording and preservation of biodiversity, with the participation of citizens, in the livestock routes of Zagori” financed by the European Green Fund.
