On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024 and in response to the call of the Chamber of Environment and Sustainability, we organized a Participatory Biodiversity Inventory Workshop near the village of Liapi Itea in Eastern Zagori, on Sunday 2nd of June.

Ecomuseum Zagori, the Biodiversity Conservation Lab of the University of Ioannina, and the Recreational Association of Itea Liapi, collaborated to carry out this activity, with the aim not only to record the biodiversity, but also to raise awareness of the local community about the importance of biodiversity conservation and the natural ecosystems.

The action included the recording of over 100 species of plants, insects and birds on a livestock trail, as well as a discussion on the role of transhumance in maintaining biodiversity, highlighting the need for science and tradition to work together in environmental conservation.

We thank all participants and send the message that protecting the environment is everyone’s business.

The action took place as part of the Echoversity Pilot Project, which is funded through the Accting Programme.
