She Moves Mountains
Empowering women in mountain regions
She Moves Mountains aims to promote gender equality by empowering women in the mountainous region of Zagori. Recognizing the unique challenges these women face due to geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic barriers, the project strives to empower them collaboratively and locally. The contribution of women who live and act in mountainous areas is mostly unseen, since often mountains are linked to the strong masculine image. Despite all the challenges they face, mountainous women are characterized by the dynamic character and the rich heritage of their ancestors as a continuation of the well-known strong “Woman of Pindos”, playing a vital role in preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the area. The project aims to act as a bridge between the mountainous women and the wider public by supporting, giving visibility and helping them grow their own voices. Central to this endeavor is the establishment of a Women’s Circle—a nurturing space for connection, shared experiences, and skill-building. These skills will culminate in a Live-Story-Sharing Event, providing a stage for mountain women to impart their wisdom and aspirations to future generations and the local community. The main objective of the event is to create a meaningful platform for women in Zagori to share their experiences and contribute to a broader dialogue on gender equality.
The Women’s Circle meetings are coordinated by psychologist Konstantina Papaioannidou, while the overall idea and organization of the project is undertaken by Dimitra Papaioannidou. The action is supported by the Ecomuseum Zagori with representative Panagiota Koutsoukou.
