The beauty of Zagori and its well-hidden treasures.

A moderately difficult hiking route through nature, which takes us to well-hidden treasures of Zagori.

The route in brief:

Tsepelovo → Stone Bridges → Negades Falls → Negades

The route in detail:

Our route starts from Tsepelovo, one of the most famous Zagorochoria, built at an altitude of more than a thousand meters. There we will have the opportunity to get to know the unique architecture of Zagori, as the settlement was the administrative centre of the region and flourished culturally and economically in the 18th and 19th centuries, which endowed it with many mansions, cobbled streets, churches, bridges and schools. We will pass by Agios Nikolaos with its 16m high hexagonal bell tower and the church in the royal style, painted by the famous Kapesovite hagiographers. We will also have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Photography where the history and everyday life of the region is highlighted through the rich photographic material.

After our walk in the village, we take the Z13 trail and pass the famous stone bridges of Tsepelovo, where we will learn about the architecture and history of these monuments of traditional art and the unique technique of the stone artisans. We cross the Skamneli stream and continue along the path. The diversity of the landscape, combining clearings with low vegetation and dense forests, will bring us in contact with the unique biodiversity of Zagori.

After about 3.5 hours we will approach the Negades falls, unseen from the dense vegetation. Around the village we will visit the hidden bridges that in combination with the successive waterfalls offer a unique spectacle.

Following the cobbled streets, we enter the aristocratical village of Negades, which, although less known than others, is not lacking in beauty and history. Wandering through the settlement will lead us, among other things, to one of the most important churches of Epirus: the three-aisled church of St. George with its rare iconographic representations! In the square we can taste the Epirus cuisine and local tsipouro or wine.
