Vlach hut construction workshop
The EcoMuseum Zagori in cooperation with ELIX-Voluntary Work Programmes, organised in the framework of the European Heritage Days 2023, a ten-day workshop on the construction of a traditional Vlach hut in the Drymades of Pogoni, in the farm of the transhumance breeder Spyros Kiosis, with the participation of groups of volunteers and with the support of the Municipality of Pogoni. The action took place from 22/9 to 2/10/2023 and included a laboratory-construction part, as well as lectures by experts and theorists. The aim of the whole project was to highlight the nomadic livestock farming, and to save the inventive practice of hut building. Moreover, among the objectives of the project was to highlight the cultural heritage aspects which characterise transhumance in Epirus and which form part of the local identity, along with the positive impact on sectors such as tourism, architecture and materials technology research.
The project was a dynamic chance for dialogue and had a particular impact on the local community of Pogoni, attracted the interest of a wide range of people and was covered by the national media.
